Metro-Detroit Musician Mykaela Worthem Releases Her Debut Album on Relatable Life Experiences
Metro-Detroit, MI : for immediate release July 5, 2023
Mykaela Worthem, a classically trained alto saxophonist from Metro-Detroit, is releasing her debut album, Be Patient, You’re Still Growing. The 7-song project by the 22 year-old will be available on streaming platforms and iTunes for purchase Wednesday August 2nd.
The R&B driven album was recorded in a month in Albany, New York on The College of Saint Rose’s campus. Executively produced, mixed and written by Worthem herself, the project represents her creativity and go-getter attitude. The concept album tells the stories that come along with growing and experiencing life, from dealing with an unfaithful partner to struggling with introspection. In May 2023, she presented the album as her senior capstone project to her peers and faculty in the Hearst Communications and Media Center and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Industry. Outside of vocals, Worthem is also featured on the album playing the piano and alto saxophone, which she has been playing for over a decade. Her love of jazz sparked in High School, giving her the opportunity to perform with a jazz band at the historic Cliff Bells jazz club as a teenager. Worthem only continued to develop her jazz skills and her Blues-inspired track, “Bluesy (Gone)”, features a jazzy solo. Her singing and production style blends characteristics from R&B, Neo-Soul, Jazz and Pop, pulling inspiration from artists like Daniel Caesar, Nao, Billie Ellish, and Ravyn Lenae.
Be Patient, You're Still Growing highlights Worthem’s story-focus songwriting, which tells a comprehensive story in under 25 minutes. Check it out on Spotify or Apple Music on August 2, 2023.

Breaking Point: “Breaking Point” is an upbeat, pre-breakup song about someone’s significant other not being truthful. The song calls out the partner for being a liar over a bass-heavy, rhythmic beat. It is the third track on Mykaela Worthem’s R&B driven debut album, Be Patient, You’re Still Growing.
Someone Else: “Someone Else (Paranoid)” is about self-sabotaging a relationship out of fear and paranoia that it will not last. Mykaela Worthem softly sings about what is causing her doubts as strings and horns build up around her vocals. Adding tension to the unanswered question she keeps asking, “Why can’t I give this up?”
Stay: Mykaela Worthem’s R&B driven debut album, Be Patient, You’re Still Growing, opens with a seemingly happy, dance song titled “Stay”. It’s funky bassline and feel-good spirit juxtaposes the story being told about struggling to find happiness. In the end, being delusional wins and is celebrated with a horn quartet inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder and Minnie Riperton.
